In celebration of their Fall 2009 North America Tour, Deva Premal & Miten offer these seven NEW, unreleased songs -- favorites from their 2009 Concerts.
This digital-only release features three brand-new songs:
Miten recalls a palm reading session he received in the Ashram in Pune, many, many moons ago...
Originating from the Chisti Brotherhood in Rajasthan, this beautiful Sufi chant was discovered by DP & M at the Lev Tahor Festival in Israel in 2007. Since then it has become one of the highlights of their concerts.
Recorded live – A golden oldie, reworked into a concert favourite. Another ‘Miten Classic’ from his days in Osho’s ashram in India.
PLUS, four never-before-heard rarities and out-takes:
This was to be the version for the Soul in Wonder album. Weirdly, a gremlin crept into the works and crashed RajRishi’s computer before he had the chance to download his files. Fortunately the mp3 version remained – and here it is.
An out-take from the Soul in Wonder sessions. This is an old and rarely performed song of Deva and Miten’s.
Those of you who remember the days when they toured with Devakant may remember this song (Devakant always lobbied for it to be included in the set). This version features Martyn Phillips on fretless bass, Ravi on shamanic flute, Spencer Cozens on piano and Deva on vocals.
- No Woman No Cry/People get Ready
Miten, enjoying his affinity with Bob Marley, sings his own version of the reggae classic.
“It came about one night in England. Ravi, my musical brother and I, were hanging out with our guitars in my hotel room. We were having fun and wanted to record what we were hearing. Ravi had some friends – Piers and Fi - close by with a studio, so we descended on them, late at night. Fortunately they were very nice people and before long we were jamming in their studio, accompanied by a bottle of vintage whiskey which was brought out to celebrate the occasion! The session rambled on into the early hours...this track kind of illustrates the space we were in! The studio itself was very special – Piers had built it entirely of straw bales – hence the name “Strawdio”.
The track is far from perfect, but it has a sweet vibe. Thank you Piers and Fi for being the perfect hosts.
