Deva Premal & Miten, the world-renowned singers of sacred, contemporary music, began their journey into love and music in 1990 when they met at an ashram in India. They have spent the last 21 years introducing millions of Westerners to the beauty and power of Sanskrit mantras. As Deva expresses it, "Mantras are passwords that transform the mundane into the sacred." Thus the artists have named their newest mantra album Password.
Deva and Miten created the mantra genre with the release of their album The Essence in 1998. Since then they have released ten albums, all of which topped New Age and Amazon.com charts worldwide.
Password represents a shift in direction for the duo, with the introduction of Danish producer, RajRishi, who brought the cream of Copenhagen's jazz players into the mix. The result is a substantial, musically refined album with sublime arrangements of ancient mantras, complimenting Deva's soulful vocals. The album also features Manose, the ever-present bansuri maestro from Nepal.
As with all their music, Deva and Miten's mission is the creation of the sacred; music born out of meditation with a deep longing to nourish and enhance the experience of the silent, peaceful, blissful space within us all. They look on their music as a spiritual practice, hence, the music transcends the concept of "entertainment", inviting the listener into realms beyond the stress and concerns of daily life into a deep sense of inner peace. Password takes mantras beyond the ashrams of India and makes them accessible for anyone new to meditation or chanting, while offering a fresh sound for practiced individuals.
